Meet Andy
In his earlier years Andy studied Engineering and Construction management at RMIT and Deakin University. This led to owning and running a successful business in Shade Sails and Light Weight Tension Structures. The business offered a complete service of Design, Engineering, Manufacture, and Installation of these structures.
In an effort to spend more time with his family as the kids grew up the shade sail business was sold and Andy and his family headed off on a 2 year caravanning trip around Australia. On return to the Mornington Peninsula Andy started working for a small transport company delivering furniture out of 2 Mercedes vans. Employee quickly turned into Owner/Employer and the fleet grew to 5 trucks and a van.
It was this combination of Engineering, transport and a passion for Caravanning that led Andy to start Your Tow Weight. He saw the opportunity for someone passionate about caravans and road safety and the need for someone to provide a service that was not just another person operating a set of scales but someone who understands the engineering and principles behind safe towing.
Our Process: How It Works
We believe that understanding your weights shouldn't be complicated or stressful. We bring our wireless scales directly to your home or storage location. We weigh each wheel individually, explain what every acronym and number means in plain English, and provide a detailed, multi-page compliance report right there on the spot. Our goal is for you to drive away with clear results, practical advice, and complete confidence in your setup.
We Come To You
We arrive at your location—home, storage facility, or office—with our calibrated portable scales. All we need is a flat, level surface.
Individual Wheel Weighing
We weigh each wheel of the tow vehicle and caravan independently. This allows us to check for side-to-side balance and calculate all critical weights.
Full Combination Check
We weigh your car and van as they are presented. We then work with you to add estimates for all "as-travelled" items (like passengers, water, fuel, food, and gear) to get a real-world picture of your GVM, GCM, and axle loads.
Instant Report & Advice
We input all data into our system and provide you with a detailed, multi-page compliance report immediately. We'll talk you through the results and offer practical advice.
Our Equipment
We use the latest wireless scales to ensure complete accuracy. Our equipment consists of wireless wheel scales, a wireless tow ball scale, and a wireless control box with a built-in printer.
Wireless Wheel Scales
These are placed under each wheel of the caravan, car, or light truck and send an individual readout to the base station. This allows the weight of each wheel to be compared, as well as each axle.
- 4 x 1000kg load cells per scale
- Rated to 2000kg per scale
- Accuracy of +/- 1 kg
- Can weigh vehicles up to 8 tonnes
Wireless Tow Ball Scale
The tow ball scale is placed under the tow point of the caravan or trailer. It is crucial that this is set to the travel height of the tow ball to provide the most accurate result.
- Rated to 1000 kg
- Ensures accurate Tow Ball Mass (TBM)
- Set to your vehicle's travel height
- Used to weigh trailers up to 9 tonnes
